Yesterday, I put the computer down and went outside.  It was around 60 degrees, and around noon the sun came out.  There is a small area next to our sidewalk that is about a foot wide that is overgrown with weeds, but had four by fours on both sides.  It had some type of plants in it before, but now it is mostly weeds.  There are some Grape Hyacinths growing there, but the weeds are taking over.  So, I decided I wanted to clean it up and plant some of the seeds we bought the other night.

Yard work is one of my weak points.  I love mowing the lawn, but the planting, raking and pickup just aren’t my bag, baby.  We bought a bunch of seeds last year, and I planted them in the starter trays in the house.  Some of them grew, but they never got transplanted outside and eventually died.  I guess it’s kind of important to do that.  Oops!

While I was out there, I pulled up the old landscape matting and mulch that had been around the pool slab for a long time.  Once I had that up, I loosened the soil and planted a bunch of different things.  I am hoping to do a test run to see if anything actually grows.  I planted the following;

There are a few we are obviously growing to eat, but the others are for me to take pictures of, and of course to make the yard look nice.  We have some peonies coming up that we planted late last year.  We planted them a little too late, so they never actually bloomed.  Hopefully this year they will.  The peony is Rose’s favorite flower.  I can’t wait to cut a few off and put them in a vase for her.

One thing I am a little worried about are the animals.  There is an abundance of furry creatures in our yard.  Deer, chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits, and turkeys have been spotted in our yard.  I am mostly worried about the vegetables, so I need to set up some sort of cage around and over them to keep the critters out.  I guess I have a week or so to figure it out.  Once the seeds start to grow out of the soil, I will definitely have to have something set up.

If you live in the area, please let me know if you or someone you know have flower seedlings they want to share or get rid of.  I would love to have some gorgeous flowers growing around here to photograph.  See ya soon!
